Shirat HaYam : HaRav Charlaf / שירת הים

Shirat HaYam tells the life story of Rabbi Yaakov Moshe Charlap through stories, teachings, sayings, testimonies, and documents gathered over more than 25 years by his great-grandson, Yair Charlap. Published sixty years after the rabbi’s passing, this volume offers a portrait of a remarkable figure whose story remains unfamiliar to many.

Rabbi Charlap served as a rosh yeshiva at Mercaz HaRav and Beit Zevul, was rabbi of Jerusalem’s Sha’arei Chesed and Rehavia neighborhoods, and was among Rabbi Kook’s closest students. Recalling his appointment as rabbi of Sha’arei Chesed at just 28, his mother expressed the hope that he might remain a hidden tzaddik. The book brings together recollections and testimony that illuminate the quiet spiritual life behind his public roles and writings, including Mei Marom and Beit Zevul.
