For much of European Jewry, the go-to authoritative halachic work was the Chayei Adam.

In fact, it is known that the Chofetz Chaim learned the Chayei Adam with the masses between mincha and maariv, and many of its rulings were incorporated into the Mishna Berura.

Until now, no English translation of the Chayei Adam has been published.
