Every person is created in the Divine image. The task of each of us is to elevate all human activity to the Divine purpose. In short, this means the ability to connect any human activity with God—and this is precisely the purpose of the Torah and its commandments, called mitzvot in Hebrew. Each person possesses the unique ability to connect their entire being with the Creator. By fulfilling this task, they create a dwelling place for God in this world, thereby fulfilling the purpose of creation.
As this book explains, the spiritual and physical worlds are not in conflict. Their ultimate goal is to merge with the physical being, permeated by the spiritual. The core element of every mitzvah—the fulfillment of a commandment—is to take physical creation and use it for a Divine purpose. In this way, a wondrous harmony is achieved both within the individual and in the world as a whole. This theme encompasses all times and places; wherever and whenever a person acts, they are able to utilize the task at hand for its proper and Divine purpose, thus transforming the world into a dwelling place for God.
The Seven Noahide Laws form a foundation with many ramifications, from which follow numerous other mitzvot—commandments given by the Almighty to Moses on Mount Sinai for transmission to all the peoples of the world. The reader is encouraged to learn more by asking questions and studying the Torah, particularly the ideas of Chabad Hasidic Jewish philosophy, many of whose concepts are discussed in this book.
