Author’s Preface

This book will not provide commentary or explanations on the ways to fulfill the Seven Commandments of the Descendants of Noah—that purpose is addressed in a separate book, “The Seven Commandments of the Most High” (“Divine Code”). This work presents a description of the moral paths a person should choose, based on common sense, in order to ultimately discover and reveal within themselves the “image and likeness of God” in which they were created, and to see this “image” in others.

This work was inspired by the Book of Knowledge (Sefer Ha-Mada) by the great sage Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon (1135–1204 CE), also known as Maimonides or Rambam. This work is the first of fourteen volumes of his fundamental work, Mishneh Torah, which codifies the laws of the Oral Torah. In this book, Rambam explains the paths of Torah that lead to Truth and Knowledge based on complete faith. Therefore, the main points of this book are drawn from Rambam’s sublime sayings, and in some cases, they are supplemented and clarified, in order to present these explanations specifically for readers from the Nations of the World who desire to attain the qualities of righteousness.

Please know that it is impossible to encompass within the confines of this book every single quality and existing virtue, nor all the known ways to attain them. The purpose of this work is to introduce the reader, in general terms, to true judgments concerning the conduct of a righteous person.
