Torah Anthology Vol. 6: Exodus (The Ten Commandments)
Torah Anthology Vol. 6: Exodus (The Ten Commandments)
The giving of the Ten Commandments marked the spiritual birth of the Jewish people. Therefore , understanding the events leading up to the revelation at Sinai is vital if one is to understand the underlying meaning of Judaism. This volume tells the story of the Ten Commandments in all its glory. The miracles surrounding this revelation are described in detail, and their significance is clearly explained. The treatment given to the Ten commandments here is unique in the annals of Jewish literature. It is in this volume that we are also able to fully appreciate the author, Rabbi Yaakov Culi's greatness in halakha. Each of the Ten Commandments is fully analyzed, not only from the philosophical viewpoint, but also according to halacha. Thus one learns not only the significance of the Ten commandments, but also how to keep them. Particulary important are the sections on the laws of blessings and the Shabbat, each of which comprises a section of close to 100 pages. Both of these are extremely difficult halakhic areas, but are rendered crystal clear by the lucid pen of Rabbi Culi. Nowhere in halakhic litrature is a better presentation to be found. Translated by Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan.
